What Swarajya means to me!

Political independence that we got from the British is not the real swarajya that I have in mind, as the change of guard from the British to our politicians was only a change in the managers. The common man, a genuinely poor man, remains in the same state that he was even before, if anything, he has become a bit poorer.

The negative feeling of common hatred towards the British brought all of us together only to take us as far away from one another as is possible soon after independence, basically because of the same negative feeling towards one another.

Real swaraj comes when man loves man and tries to change oneself rather than preach to others to change. This world is but one family and one has to internalize that feeling to feel free. In that state only every one would feel freedom of the true variety.

Today our problems are mainly because we hate one another in the name of country, race, religion, caste, language, and what have you. The gluon that could bring man and man together is that feeling of belonging and love. Love not as an emotion but as being. Just as God is love man should have universal love to feel free from all negative thoughts-satchitaananda.

Unto that cherished goal man should strive to reach- a tall order indeed, but a distinct possibility. We do not need religions but we do need spirituality, the latter is just sharing and caring. We do not want degrees but, we need wisdom. We do not need power but, we do need the strength of character. We do not need charity but, we need sharity.. We do not need atom bombs, but we need food and shelter for our poor masses. The present struggle for power would eventually destroy all mankind on this planet. Let each one of us use our head to manage ourselves but use the heart to manage others.

That is true swaraj.
